1 MILLION
1 MILLION
Yesterday afternoon, some friends - of which 3 are male - came over to our house. We hung out in my room for a couple of hours before leaving the flat.
Upon reaching home later at night, the parents asked which - among the 3 - is the boyfriend; so that they'll know from whom to collect the 1 million dollars, so as to sit aeroplane, go sunbathe in Hawaii, go Japan eat sushi, and drink sake.
I replied that ALL 3 are. Cool as cucumber.

"You are young, my son, and, as the years go by,
time will change and even reverse many of your present opinions.
Refrain therefore awhile from setting yourself up as a judge of the highest matters."
- Plato, "Dialogues: Theatetus"
Admit it or not, but human always has this tendency to believe that whatever they say, or think, are right. No one is immuned to it. Even the best of man is susceptible to it. Oftentimes, though, time proves us all wrong. What we were once so firmly convinced is the best, is not really the best afterall.
Life is a journey. Of improvement; of advancement; of learning.

HELLO, WORLD!
HELLO, WORLD!
I am the cute lil' youngest cousin at 16-months-old.
I have fat and chubby cheeks, and I like to pout. Prettily at that.
I have a big big round round tummy. Everyone likes to affectionately touch, rub, and tease me about it.
I am tall for my height, but short for my cousin's. We're at eye level with each other only when she's seated on the ground, and I, standing. The teacher down at the childcare center was so surprised when my Mum told her that I'm only 16-months-old. She had expected me to be older than that, because - according to her - I'm quite big for a baby of my age.
I walk fast; so fast that the sole of my feet touches only for a split of a nanosecond, before it leaves the ground. It almost looks like I walk on my toes. It's endearing; the way I walk.
I learn things very quickly. 2 weeks ago, I picked up the guitar tuner which my cousin, out of convenience, left on the floor of her bedroom after practice. She was mugging for her exams then, but she saw me. Wagging her right forefinger at me, she said, "Nono, Grace, nono. Nono". The message was short, but clear. I reached out and handed it to her. The strict, crazy woman refused to accept it, but pointed sharply to the floor instead. "Put down. Put it back to where it was. Fang hui qu." I didn't understand the words coming out of her mouth, but I understood what the pointing finger meant. I did as instructed. Oh, WOW! The cousin trusts me so much! What if I fling the tuner out of the window or throw it onto the floor? But I'm a good girl. I put it down on the floor gently.
10minutes later, I again wandered into her room. The tuner was still there. I walked right up to it. She thinks I'm unaware of it: the sneaky cousin was surreptitiously watching out of the corners of her eyes. Lifting up my right forefinger, I wagged it to the tuner and repeated what I've just been instructed, "Nono!". I turned to face the sneaky lady, wagged my finger at her this time round, and repeated, "Nono". See! I know I'm forbidden to touch the tuner! Surprised the bananna out of her. Hohoho! But I know she was as pleased as punch.
I like cold things. Ice cubes. Ice-cream.
My parents are weaning me off the diapers now. Thus, half of the time, I'm diaper-less. But I'm rather smart. I know to inform my parents whenever I need to answer nature's call. I do this by saying, "Shee shee", or by putting my hands to my nose; indicating that I need to do some smelly business. Sometimes though, it's either I forget, or I fail to recognize the urge; but I end up soiling myself.
I know how to "shhh!!!" when it's necessary. One of the neighbours own a noisy dog whose barks are so sharp and loud. During my first few weeks, I was so startled by the barks. Now? I put a finger to my lips and "shhh!!!" towards the direction of the corridor. Ain't I cool? But I don't think the dog hears my shhh, though. It keeps barking incessantly as and when it feels like it. The genius but sinister cousin once indulgently fantasized about feeding it a biscuit laced with poison - all because it has an uncanny timing to bark whenever she's sleeping or napping. Oh! Poor dog.
I've only been here for about less than one month effectively, but I've already made a new friend in the neighbourhood! One of the neighbours has a baby in their house. I call him "Didi". As he's residing in the opposite unit, we'll sometimes wave to each other across the metal grill gates.
Oh! Speaking of waving, I like to wave! I sometimes even wave to the Fortune Cat in Yi Zhang's and Ah Yi's bedroom!
I am afraid of tortoises. Unfortunately, there are 2 big ones in my Uncle's house. So scared of them that I dare not approach the 2 reptiles.
My vocabulary, for now, is still fairly limited. I like to say "baby", "che che (cars)", "bus", "zhuo (sit)", "no more", "no no", "Pa Pa", "Mummy", "Yi Zhang (Uncle)", "Ah Yi (Aunt)", "Jie jie (older sister), "Di Di (younger brother)", "bao (carry), "Eee", "shee shee", and "dog".
I can say "Thank you" too, but it really depends on my mood. If I simply don't feel like, I won't say it. Sometimes though, I blurt out "Thank you" without even being cajoled. It always thrills the socks out of everybody in the house whenever I do that. Mountain tortoises.
I'm a pleasant, happy baby. I hardly cry - even if I got bullied or if I lose my balance on my 2 tiny feet. The only predictable times I cry are only when: it's time to sleep, and I need to poo.
My favourite song is "Old McDonald (has a farm)". I can listen to it on a particular website on the internet for ages and ages. However, due to the sparse number of words which I am currently able to articulate as of yet, I can only "Ee-ya-ee-ya-ooo". I like the song so much that I can sing "Ee-ya-ee-ya-ooo!!!" repeatedly - like a broken recorder - anywhere, anytime, anyday. Totally randomly! BUT hey! At least I get the melody, pitch, and tempo perfect! My cousin thinks I'm brilliant in singing for my age.
I'm great at imitating too! I think it stems from my remarkable ability to pick things up real fast. Even since I've come here, I've learnt to stick out my tongue and make monkey faces. Apart from these, I've also picked up the cousin's trademark; AND, what's more, I couple the action with an additional "HEEHEEHEE!"!!! As my motor coordination skills are still in the developing stage, instead of placing my palms on the cheeks and cupping my chin, I place them on my ears. HEEHEEHEE!
I know how to get my message across too! Just 2 weeks ago, on Saturday late afternoon, I walked into the cousin's bedroom in search of the lady. Yi Zhang - her Dad - found me in her room. I turned to him and said, "Jie Jie... No more... No more (Heeheehee + action) Jie Jie. He understood what I meant.
I do the HEEHEEHEE! action to the cousin almost daily. Especially in the morning. When she wakes up and opens the door to her bedroom, and if I so happen to pass by, I'll do it to her. Now she has a first-hand understanding of the word "karma". But I suspect she thinks the term "7-fold retribution" is more apt.
I am still sick, and am still warded. My sister Serene was discharged yesterday, though. The doctor reported my temperature for today is 37.4oC. I'm so glad! It was 39.7oC on Sunday, the day I was warded!

EVERYONE IS IN THE HOSPITAL
EVERYONE IS IN THE HOSPITAL
Grace just got admitted into the hospital this late evening. Raging fever at 39.7oC. My parents went visiting, and I didn't go along because of the terrifying Instrumental Analysis paper tomorrow. No, correction, it's later today in the afternoon. Heard that my dear pouty princess kept crying, though. Awww... Well, that's babies for you; the only thing they're able to do is to cry to make known their discomfort.
Serene has yet to be discharged. She has been in there since Tuesday. I'm not sure if she's still on the drip. Sigh! The poor girls.
And the aunts who have been taking care of the girls before they were warded are, with varying seriousness, sick as well. Some virulent virus it certainly is! Frightening.
Thank goodness I'm still healthy and bouncy and pinkish.

DAO, CHRISTMAS WISH!
DAO, CHRISTMAS WISH!
MONDAY
Sent the younger brother off at T3 at 10.00pm. Bumped into the brilliant PE teacher who once taught us frisbee techniques. He'll be accompanying the school's volleyball team on this trip to Australia. He still remembers and recognizes me. Simply THRILLED. He is such a great and brainy person, can?!
TUESDAY
Serene got admitted into KK Hospital. Down with a viral infection which she caught from the childcare centre. Poor thing; only going on to 3-years-old, and have to be on a drip at this tender age. Her fever has been rollercoaster-ing persistently, with it's peak at 40oC.
WEDNESDAY
Slept. Ate. Slept. Studied. Slept. Studied. Bathed. Watched TV. Comp. Watched TV. Studied. Slept.
THURSDAY
See above
FRIDAY
Asia Conference. The younger brother came home at 12am plus. Brought home LOADS and LOADS of chocolates. Bought for me a packet of Nougat (YES!!!!!!!!!) and a BIG doggie soft toy. I'm so happy. SOFT TOYS ARE MEANT TO BE BIG!!!
SATURDAY
Received news that Grace is also running a fever. Hope she has not caught the virus from her sister. I've not seen the 2 sisters for a week. Oh, how I miss them!
Went online. Chatted with Cindy. We #@$#^^%&^*%# about this coming Monday's Instrumental Analysis paper. They're really trying to kill us. Combining 2 CORE MODULES into 1 is a very bad idea. The contents are really beyond overwhelming.
Chatted with Dao. She's ever so sweet. For the past few days, she's been dropping messages of "jia you" and etc. I told her this Monday's paper is a real brain cells killer. She offered to lend me her brain if mine is not enough. I replied that I would prefer God's. Who knows, maybe God's brain can even PRINTSCREEN, you know! PRINTSCREEN!!!
Dao told me not to be lazy. But my brain really cannot squeeze anymore liao lah!!! Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy and Absorption Emission Spectroscopy and Absorption Fluorescence Spectroscopy and Xray Spectroscopy and Mass Spectroscopy and Charging Current and Diffusion Current and Double Layer and Capacitor and q = CV = (ee0/d)V and noise/signal ratio and Calibration Curve method and internal calibration method and external calibration method and standard addition calibration method and monochromators and Hollow Cathode Lamp and Electrodeless Cathode Lamp and Linear Sweep Voltammetry and Cyclic Voltammetry and Normal Pulse Potentiommetry and Differential Pulse Potentiommetry and ALOT MORE.
I WANT THE TALENT! I WANT TO PRINTSCREEN!
PRINTSCREEN!!!
Santa old man, my wish for Christmas is to have a brain that's able to printscreen, please!
I'm speaking so incoherently! I'm REALLY SO STRESSED LAH!!! Hate to say this. But I dread Monday. Wish me all the best. Ta!
EDIT (11:57PM): Dao says she loves me while we're bading goodbye on MSN. Oh! I love words of love and encouragement (note: not affirmation)!

GIGGLES
GIGGLES
At 16-months-old, Grace is able to speak and pronounce a couple of essential words; such as "zhuo (sit)", "che che (cars)", "no no", "no more", "thank you", "milk", "bao bao (carry)" and etc.
The video was interrupted halfway through, because she lunged forward all of a sudden and asked to be carried.
She likes to make monkey faces at me; and I, at her. Her current favourite is me crossing my eyes, rocking and tilting my head to the left and to the right, and sticking out my tongue. All at the same time.
She always giggles whenever I do this. With 99.9% success rate. Works like a charm.

THE SMART LADY
THE SMART LADY
On Wednesday, because I have no wish to take a bus to the nearest MRT station (adult fares! AH!!!), I hitched a ride from Dad on his way out. It was still early, and I was way ahead of schedule. The Master would not have been back from work at this time, and I have no wish to arrive too early and impose myself. Hence, I got off the train halfway down the journey, and alighted at Kovan. I love Kovan! It's the only place I know like the back of my hand! Until the age of 17, it was my home, and it holds loads of school-days memories!
It was only 5.30pm. Lesson will only start at 7pm. Walking into Heartland Mall, I decided to pop by Old Chang Kee. Man, I've always loved their Sotong Sticks! Arriving at the shop, the price made me gasp. Glup. Eh... Since when has the price increased? And by this much? It was only $1.10 as I remember it!
I decided not to purchase any. Went into Cold Storage instead, and purchased a pack of Nutrisoy Low-Sugar High-Calcium Soya Bean. Paid for it, went back to the train station, and headed down for lesson.
All that I had intended to do: save $0.71 on the bus fare. But I ended up paying $1.05 for the Soya Bean drink. Technically made a loss of $0.34 in the end. Smart.
_______________________________________________________
That was Wednesday.
Yesterday, on Friday, while I was packing my bag before heading out to meet Dao and Mad for a meal in school, then to Bugis, and finally to Riverwalk; I chanced upon the pack of half-finished Soya Bean. Oh, crap! I've TOTALLY forgotten about it! Since there was only a couple of mouthfuls left, without thinking, I opened the cap and gulp down a mouthful.
Only to puke it out immediately.
The tummy hurts now.
$0.34 + tummyache. All because of a meagre 71cents.
I'm too smart beyond words. Please love me. =)
Seems like I'm always in danger of putting the wrong things into the mouth. At this rate... ... ... Sigh!

IT'S A SILLY MISTAKE...
IT'S A SILLY MISTAKE...
To attempt to "peel" off the hardened skin. Now, the fingertips hurt even to type on the keyboard. Never, ever, have I typed this slow using TWO hands. The fingertips are now so delicate and tender and raw. And, we're having our weekly impartation session with The Master tomorrow. ALAMAK!!! HOW?!?!?!
Don't MSN me.
Itchy hand lah. Peel lah, peel lah. Peel somemore. Itchy hand.

THE LURE OF ICE-CREAM
THE LURE OF ICE-CREAM
Today at 5.20pm, I reached home after another packed day in school.
Serene was not yet back from the childcare centre.
I felt peckish.
Opened the refrigerator's freezer compartment.
Took out a stick of red bean potong.
Tore off the wrapping.
Bit off chunks of the potong (the correct way of eating ice-cream is to BITE, not lick! Ice-cream is NOT meant to be licked! Lick?! Oh please, SERIOUSLY!).
Went to the living room.
Strategically positioned myself in the clear view from my Aunt's and Uncle's room.
Waited for a few seconds.
Grace was sitting on the floor. Looked up. Saw me.
Waved my potong at her.
She put aside her toy book.
Got up to her feet.
I waded back leisurely into the living room.
Seated myself neatly outside the entrance to the kitchen, leaning against the door of the bomb shelter.
Grace wandered into the living room.
She easily located me.
In a still and quiet manner, she obediently parked herself right beside me.
She looked at me. Silently.
We shared the potong.

WET
WET
Just reached home from school. Laboratory experiment ended early at 1.30pm (what more can I say? We're fast workers!). Reached home at 3.30pm, and had a shower. Because it is not convenient to do so at night, I had wanted to use whatever remaining of the afternoon to practice the six strings; and study for this Friday's Instrumental Analysis Test later at night instead. But my dear Grace is currently having her afternoon nap. This makes the six-strings-practice a big nono. With 2 babies around the house, sensitivity and timing now take supreme priority and importance. Oh, how I miss the days when I'm able to freely do whatever I want, whenever I want, and however I want!
Because practicing the strings is not a viable option now, I decided to do what I usually do best. But, alas, my hair is still wet from the shower - and I don't like to blow-dry it - therefore, catching a wink is a big nono too.
Thus, it's time to blog! The bad thing is: I don't really have a particular topic in mind to talk about. Hence, this nonsensical blog entry.
Never mind. I shall be off to practice some fingering! Ehhh... Chords fingering.
Anyway, after next Monday's Practical Test, my faithful lab coat can really retire for good and tui chu jiang hu!
After 6 years, this really calls for a celebration.
P.S. Grace, please wake up soon.

PRINT JOBS
PRINT JOBS
I was printing a draft of last week's laboratory report, for my own study for the laboratory Oral Test and laboratory Quiz tomorrow. After plugging in the thumbdrive and retrieving the Word Document, I sent the print job to the printer.
No sound came from the printer.
Puzzled, I went to the Control Panel, and opened the Printer's Folder. There it was, my print job - 1st in the queue. I right-clicked on the print job, and ascertained that it is not paused. Indeed, it's not.
Hmmm... This is so strange.
Hey, wait! It's written on the top that the "printer is offline"!
I stretched out and bended down. Yep, I've plugged the correct plug into the correct power socket. And nope, I didn't switch on the wrong power source.
Weird.
Canceling the existing print job, I sent in a new request. Again, the printer's not printing. I inspected the printer. Yes lah, it's switched on, what! Got green light on the printer, leh! Totally puzzled now, I switched off and on the printer's power switch. Again, I sent in a repeat print job request. Still, the printer was not giving a beep.
I was totally stumped. Just when I was about to give up and call for SOS (read: the older brother), it was then the genius in me realized: the USB cable was not plugged in.
Sigh! So clever!
Luckily I didn't ask for help. I have a feeling that he'll give me an exagerrated and exasperated "wah lau eh!!!".
Anyway, tomorrow is our LAST laboratory experiment! After tomorrow's lab Oral Test, lab quiz, and lab experiment, all that I'm left with is a FINAL LABORATORY REPORT!
THEN I'M - FINALLY - DONE WITH LABORATORY SESSIONS!!! AND I CAN FINALLY KISS THE LAB COAT AND SAFETY GOGGLES A LONG-AWAITED GOODBYE, AU REVOIR, AND SAYONARA!!!

BUSY DAY
BUSY DAY
After many numerous donkey years, I had my first bite of Hor Fun. School schedule on Tuesdays and Fridays is totally packed. There are lessons from 10am - 12pm, 12pm - 2pm, and 2pm - 4pm; without any proper break in between. Normally, I don't have any meals in school. It just doesn't make sense to do so. Lessons end at 4pm, and I'll reach home at 6pm; just in time for dinner! So, eat in school for what???
Study week is only 2 weeks away. So, technically speaking, these are the last 2 weeks of this semester. And the number of times I've eaten in the school canteen? Less than 10. Shameful.
But last week, after ML and MY bought Chicken Shreds Hor Fun and ate them during lecture, I was greatly enticed. It's funny. Previously, they had Chicken Rice, Char Siew Rice, and etc. But none of it had such a powerful lure on me. There's just something magical about the aroma of Hor Fun in an air-conditioned lecture theatre, I guess.
Anyway, because today is going to be a long day, I decided to bring in a packet of Hor Fun and eat it during the last lecture from 2pm - 4pm. The lecturer is a very nice and considerate man. He is the first lecturer whose lectures I dare to eat a FULL MEAL in; as opposed to the usual snacks of Vitasoy or Curry Puff or Spring Roll or whatnots. Personally, I don't think I'll like it if my students munch on food while I'm teaching. I know, I know, the principle of sowing and reaping. Oh well, it's a problem for later, I guess. Anyway, after all, secondary school and tertiary institutes are vastly different! For one, the former has a proper time slot for recess!
A little blur-ish as I took this picture in a hurry. Had intended to gobble up the whole thing before the lecture starts. Of course I didn't manage to. How on earth does one finish a packet of Hor Fun within a meagre 5minutes?
Anyway, I've not had Hor Fun for, like, many many many years.
The verdict? It tasted alright. Okay, honestly, it tasted mediocre. Before long, before I was halfway through the meal, it started to taste like mucus.
I guess the greatest delight, as well as the biggest disappointment, is the shittake mushrooms (MUSHROOMS!!! YEAH!!!). It was nothing like what was shown in the picture on the signboard! I had expected the shittake mushrooms to come in big, complete, and juicy chunks! What a disappointment when I realized that there were only a couple of sliced mushrooms. That's so sad.
After lessons, I went down to Bugis. It's so near to campus; the MRT journey is only 20minutes! With everything of late, the last thing I felt like doing, is precisely shopping. But, I guess, this is why it's important not to live our life or to make decisions based on feelings alone. Because honestly? On every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, I don't feel like embarking on a 2hours journey to travel to campus for laboratory work or lectures.
After spending hours and finally getting what I've intended to get at Bugis Village, I adjourned down to Daiso at Plaza Singapura, in search of a gift box. Couldn't find one that's of the desired size, and thus settled for a gift bag instead. It was already 7pm, and I was so tired from all the walking-cum-shopping. I was all too happy to board the train home. Halfway through the journey, I realized I totally forgot to drop by the Yamaha Music store to purchase a couple of picks and a pack of strings while I was at PS. Oh, what a klutz! After hearing the "true live accounts" from The Master, I decided it's wise to get a couple of extra picks; just in case.
The current, and the only, one that I'm using has served me faithfully thus far. I really like the current pick. It leans on the thick side, but not too thick. It's hard, but yet, it's malleable at the same time. Then again - as much as I'm attached to this current pick - if it ever live past its lifespan someday, I'll be left with none at all. Somehow, just the idea of having just one pick makes me feel insecure and uneasy. It makes me feel... crippled. And the strings, oh... The strings are at least 3 years old! There's an uneasy premonition that they'll break before long. Bleah. But before I lay my hands on a pack of backup strings, please please please don't die on me so soon.
Anyway, I'm getting busier and busier of late. There's a Lab Oral Test, and a Lab Quiz on this coming Monday. And on Friday, there's a test on CM3242 Instrumental Analysis. Thursday? The Master is challenging us to a "live performance"! My brain is going to be fried for this coming week! Oh!!!

Anyway, I've been talking so much about Grace! Now, meet Serene! She's 2-years-old plus. Last Sunday, I told her to pose and smile for the cammie, and she really did! She'll be starting her first day at the daycare centre tomorrow! What a pity I won't be around at home.
I hope she'll have fun. Adapt well to the new environment and make new friends!
Please grow healthily, and happily.
